The Inistioge Community Council (ICC) held its Annual General Meeting at Cois Abhann on Tuesday, 1 April 2026, bringing together representatives from community organisations, volunteers, local groups, and residents to reflect on the past year’s progress and to look ahead to future developments for the village.
Chairperson Georgina Morrissey welcomed attendees and thanked everyone for their continued support, involvement, and commitment to community life in Inistioge. The meeting highlighted the importance of maintaining strong community participation and encouraging younger generations to become involved in local initiatives and organisations.
Recognising Community Contributions
The Chairperson acknowledged the work and dedication of the ICC officers, committee members, volunteers, and the many people who quietly support activities throughout the year. Particular thanks were extended to those involved in organising refreshments, supporting the library and ETB courses, and helping maintain community activities and events. Special appreciation was also expressed to the Inistioge Vintage Rally for its continued generosity and ongoing financial support of community projects.
The Council also recognised the contribution of John Gilsenan for his work developing and maintaining the Inistioge website and social media platforms, which continue to strengthen communication and community engagement both locally and beyond.

Since the AGM took place, the Council and wider community were saddened by the passing of Adrian Codd, representative of the Anglers Association and a valued contributor to community life in Inistioge.
Treasurer’s Report and Financial Update
Treasurer Sandra Cullen presented the financial report and outlined several positive developments during the year.
Among the highlights was the successful award of €14,000 in Kilkenny County Council grant funding towards the installation of new bi-folding doors at the community facility. The overall project cost came to €14,990.The Treasurer also noted that the gym facility generated an income of approximately €3,500 during the year, helping support ongoing operational and community costs.
Major Community Investment Projects
One of the most significant updates presented at the AGM related to the Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF).
The ICC confirmed that a grant of €100,000 has been awarded to support future development works. To assist with project delivery, an application for bridging finance through Clann Credo is underway, alongside matching funding support from the GAA.
The Council also outlined its continued focus on reducing energy costs and improving the environmental sustainability of community facilities.

• Exploration of additional supports through Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP)
• Plans for further community engagement meetings

Growing Inistioge’s Digital Presence
The AGM heard that Inistioge’s digital presence continues to grow steadily through the village website and associated social media platforms. The Council noted that increasing numbers of residents, visitors, organisations, and community groups are using the platforms to share news, events, activities, and local information.
The ICC website continues to serve as an important communications hub for the wider community.
Election of Officers
The Council expressed sincere thanks to Joan Sullivan for her long-standing commitment and contribution to the ICC over many years. The AGM concluded with the election and ratification of officers. Attendees welcomed Luke Coulter to his new role as Buildings Officer, and current officers were ratified while nominations for additional positions were invited. The Council also noted plans to expand communications and community outreach through the appointment of a Public Relations Officer.
Looking Ahead
The AGM reflected a strong sense of optimism and ambition for the future of Inistioge’s community facilities and organisations. With major investment projects progressing, continued volunteer support, and increasing community engagement both online and in person, the ICC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local groups and ensuring that community spaces continue to thrive for future generations. The Council thanked everyone who attended the AGM and encouraged residents to stay involved, support local initiatives, and participate in upcoming community events and projects throughout the year.
