Creative Writing Weekend Workshop
Award winning author John Maher hosts a Creative Writing Weekend Workshop on the 4th-6th November 2011 on the beautiful grounds of Kilkenny Country Retreat, an exclusive venue nestled in the countryside near the village of Inistioge, South County Kilkenny.
The Workshop will cover the following topics:
Novel writing from beginning to end.
Initial inspiration/concept and such matters as ‘genre’, ‘literary novels’ and the ‘writer-reader contract’.
Mechanics of writing such as plot, characterization, conflict, dialogue and ‘tone’.
Extracts from published novels and stories will be looked at.
Exercises will be given (e.g. scene setting, dialogue to develop character/plot).
Students who already have an idea/work-in-progress may bring this along to class for discussion.
