Entente Florale 2018

Inistioge enters Entente Florale 2018

Inistioge will represent Ireland in the Entente Florale competition in 2018.  This is a great honour for the village and recognises both its unique heritage and the work done by volunteers over the years to keep it at its finest.  Just two towns and villages are nominated every year to represent each participating country (Dungarvan is the other Irish entry).

The Entente Florale competition is organised by The European Association for Flowers and Landscape -AEFP

The Association Europeenne pour le Fleurissement et le Paysage (AEFP) – the European Association for Flowers and Landscape is an international, non-profit association founded in 1996 in Brussels. The roots of the Association go more deeply into history since a competition which started between the France and United Kingdom in 1975.

The overall aim of the Association today is the social and cultural development and enhancement of the quality of life of urban dwellers, primarily through landscape development and horticulture.

To support its aims, the Association organises an international competition known as Entente Florale Europe in order to promote a greener and more pleasant environment in European towns and villages and to establish international contacts among the participants.

Through this annual competition public authorities, private and voluntary bodies and individuals, are encouraged to co-operate in beautifying their towns and villages by the planting of flowers and shrubs, by the development and maintenance of green spaces and parks and by generally fostering development which is ecologically and environmentally sensitive. In this way, the quality of life is improved for both the inhabitants and visitors alike.

Inistioge's participation in the Entente Florale competition is being led by Inistioge Tidy Towns.

Inistioge Tidy Towns wishes to acknowledge the assistance provided by Kilkenny County Council and the Department of Rural and Community Development in its preparation for the competition.

Work has commenced and will continue in the coming weeks and months to have the village ready for the adjudication day which will be on July 20th.

Full details of the criteria that we will be assessed on can be found here.
