A sense of place – Creative Writing Workshops
Local writer Carmel Cummins will host two creative writing workshops in Woodstock Gardens on the 15th and 29th of May. The workshops will be on the theme of home and place.
The workshops will take place in the Conservatory in Woodstock Gardens, Inistioge
Dates: Wed 15th and 29th May
Time: 10-00 – 12.30 both days
Outline: Two workshops with the same group, held two weeks apart on the theme of Place/Home Place.
Wednesday 15th May – Workshop 1 will be used to introduce the theme of writing on Place/Home Place, to explore what participants understand by effective work on this theme, provide examples of ‘best practice’, and participants will use the gardens as a ‘laboratory’ to explore writing on the theme.
Wednesday 29th May – Workshop 2 will provide an opportunity for more in-depth exploration of the skills involved. Each participant will be invited to present a prose piece or poem on a place that has particular significance for them. These pieces will be workshopped in the group.
Number in group, not more than ten, places given on a first-come-first-served basis.
Fee: €10 per workshop payable on the day
Carmel Cummins is from Co Kilkenny and lives in Inistioge. Her poetry has been most recently published in Woodstock Promenade ,2009, Kilkenny Broadsheet, 2009, 2010 and 2012, I live in Michael Hartnett, 2013. Prose pieces on her home place have been published in Townlands: a habitation, 2012.
