Inistioge Vintage Rally – great success!
Inistioge Vintage Rally was another great success despite the inclement weather. It is a fantastic place at the best of times, and was really enhanced by the rally which had something for everyone this year.
The rally took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. It's always great day out for all the family in the charming village along the banks of the river Nore. On Sunday 5th August there was a fantastic display. Exhibits included Vintage Cars, Tractors, Trucks, Motorbikes, Stationary Engines Commercials, Farm Implements, Threshing Mills, Bread and Butter Making, Crafts, Live Music & Dancing, Wellington Boot Throwing, Dog Show, Bouncy Castle, Stalls, Side Shows and many novelty events including the ever popular Duck Race which took place in the canal that splits the rally field.
Inistioge Vintage Rally is run on a voluntary basis, with proceeds passed on to charitable causes in the community. To-date, Inistioge Vintage Rally has contributed in excess of €90,000 to St. Vincent de Paul, Alzheimer’s Day Care, Guide Dogs, and cancer-screening units, along with local clubs and good causes.
FBD Queen of the Land - Bernie Woods officially opened the event and during her speech thanked the organising team and volunteers for their dedication and hard work in preparing the event. Bernie also recalled her days being brought to the rally by her dad as a young girl.

This year there were over 350 exhibitors, similar to the record entry in 2010. On show were classic and vintage cars, oil engines, tractors and motorbikes. FBD Queen of the Land - Bernie Woods presented the Leslie Rothwell Trophy for the Best Vintage Exhibit. The judges for the award were Bernie Woods and Denis Murphy of the Irish Vintage Society. Both judges struggled in their decision-making as the award covered all vintage classes with standards very high which made for a very for a competitive event.
After over 2 hours of deliberations, the Leslie Rothwell Trophy was fittingly won by a 1940 Allis Chalmers Bailer owned by the Rothwell Family. The bailer was purchased by Leslie himself about 15 years ago and was recently restored by his brother Austin Rothwell, Clossgregg, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny.
There is no doubt that the Inistioge Vintage Rally will be very special again on the banks of the Nore in 2013 when the event will be staged over the August Bank Holiday weekend 4th August 2013.
