Nore Valley Athletic Club

Hi, Brian Keane here,

Just wanted to let you all know that I am competing in a Double Olympic Triathlon which is a Middle Distance or Half Ironman Event.

The event is called Tri-Athy and it is on June 1st 2013.  It consists of a 3km swim in a river followed by an 80km cycle and then a 20km run to finish off!!

I am in training at the moment and increasing my mileage in each discipline every week. Swimming training is mostly in a pool, and hopefully as the temperatures rise, in the river in Graiguenamanagh. Cycling training is around the Kilkenny/Inistioge area and the running is mostly in Inistioge, where I have plenty of scope for challenging runs…

I am competing in this event to help raise funds for the Nore Valley Athletics Club, of which I am a member.

It is a fantastic club based in Inistioge. There are all levels of athlete, junior, senior, Fit4Life and Fit4Life Walkers. With over 100 members of all ages, shapes and sizes. This is a non-profit organisation.

We are trying to raise money for a long-jump pit, a high-jump mattress and other sports equipment for the club

All contributions are very much appreciated no matter how small.

If you hit on the link below it will take you to a Paypal where you can donate via a secure website.

Nore Valley Athletic club had its first meeting on 13th September 2009. At that meeting it was decided to set up the athletic club. We then spent some time training coaches and setting up the structures of the club. The club began training kids in January 2010.  The club already has 100 members after just one year of operation.

The Ethos of the club is to get children active in athletics in a fun and safe environment and in doing this help to build each child’s confidence. This will be done in a spirit of positive encouragement at all times.

Athletics Ireland provides training for coaches and support in terms of policy and organising Garda Clearance. We have received a free kit bag from Athletics Ireland. This kit bag contains a significant volume of equipment.
