Snap Net Fishermen - DVD now available
A 25-minute film entitled "The Snap Net Salmon Fishermen of the River Nore" is now available on DVD.
The documentary features fishermen from Ballinagoth, located three miles downriver from Inistioge village, where the fishing community, comprising of fourteen licensed snap net fishermen, are still carrying on the tradition of cot net fishing.
The River Nore, having been closed to salmon fishing for three years, is the only river of the Three Sisters where snap net fishing is now permitted by Inland Fisheries Ireland. This DVD highlights how this tradition is still very much living on as often three generations of one family can be witnessed on the River Nore snap net fishing. DVDs are now on sale in outlets in New Ross, Inistioge and The Rower. All profits made will go to the upkeep of the Woodstock Heritage Museum
